At the age of 14, Sam's family purchased a holiday farm in the Shoalhaven region of NSW. By chance, one of their neighbours was a professional event rider and coach, and so he began taking lessons. Showing obvious talent and interest in the sport, Sam took part in his first event within just a few months. By the time he left school, he had two horses in competition at one star level, and then moved to the farm full-time so that he could concentrate on his riding career.
Just 2 years later, Sam won the highly regarded Gawler CCI 3 star, and also had a 2nd and 3rd placing at the same level, earning him the title of World Young Rider Champion for 1995. In 1997 Sam moved to Europe with two horses where he gained extensive and valuable experience riding a variety of horses and competing for Australia at the Open European Championships
Since returning to Australia in 1998 Sam has produced numerous horses to 3 star level and has had many successes both as a competitor and coach. He has been an Assistant Australian Coach for Olympic, Trans-Tasman and WEG teams, and the Head Coach for the Australian Young Rider Team. For the past 5 years he has also been the showjumping coach for the NSW Institute of Sport Elite Squad, demonstrating how well his training techniques are valued. Between all of this, he still manages to compete and hold numerous clinics around the country.
We are proud to have been associated with Sam since the late 1990's and value his help with development ideas and field testing of many products - the most recent of these being our Peformance Horse Boot range - the XC and X-Air boots.
